Here's another lesson in which we did various of experiments that left me astonished.
My first thoughts of Acids were that it can corrode, eat through things, but that was not the case after this lesson. In that lesson, I learnt different types of acids. I know one that's in our stomachs, which is Hydrochloric Acid. It was so corrosive, after some personal research, I found out it could eat through zinc!
But I mostly remembered the experiments, where we were told to fill up test tubes with 2, I think, or just 1? Anyway, we filled up test tubes with dilute acid. And in each of these test tubes, we have to place in one type of metal, I remembered one of them was... Zinc? And these metals reacted, a lot. I tried placing my thumb over it and tried to push my thumb off, indicating a gas was produced. Mdm Riza told me it was hydrogen and to test it out we had to lower a lighted splint into the test tube. We did. The result was a small, tiny... explosion (Don't worry, no harm done.) with a soft 'poof'. I felt contented (and so was Yi Heng) that our mini explosion was very loud, that the tables in front could hear.
Oh, and I also remembered a experiment about testing for carbon dioxide with limewater in a reaction. We just reacted some metals with some acids and used a pipe to direct the gas produce to limewater. White precipitate was produced in the limewater, indicating Carbon Dioxide.
Overall, the lesson was fun and exciting. And very detailed to (Even though I remembered some part of the second experiment, sorry about that...)
